Finca La Emperatriz Las Cenizas Tempranillo Rioja DOCa

Finca La Emperatriz is a winery with an extensive vineyard estate in Rioja Alta.
Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is the new project of brothers Eduardo and Víctor, who in 1996 acquired Bodega La Emperatriz, named as such because the first owner of these plots was Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. With this new emphasis and with new projects at hand, the winery changed its name but its high-end wines retain the Finca La Emperatriz signature, the name of the ‘viñedo singular’ they come from.
Until the end of 2019, the range of wines under the “Finca La Emperatriz” label included nine wines made with grapes from different vineyards of the same name. This has been replaced by a new selection where El Jardín de la Emperatriz Tinto now occupies the place of Finca la Emperatriz Parcela No. 1 and Finca La Emperatriz Garnacha Cepas Viejas that are no longer produced.

Las Cenizas is the first ‘vino de pueblo’ produced by the winery and the most intimate project of the Hernáiz brothers as it was born from vineyard plots that have belonged to the family for generations in Cenicero, the hometown of Eduardo and Víctor Hernáiz. It is made with Tempranillo and a very small amount of Mazuelo from clayey-calcareous soils and a climate with greater Mediterranean influence which give a voluminous and very juicy wine.
