Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet

Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in the late 1970s by Michel Morey, the son of Marc Morey of Domaine Marc Morey, and his wife, Fabienne Coffinet.
With a stable foundation of 1er Crus from the southeast-facing hillside, the whites, now in the hands of their son Thibault, speak to the very essence of Chassagne, with fragrant aromas framed by powerful minerality.
This refined Chassagne-Montrachet village offers a nice presentation of the house style. The organic and now biodynamic methods used (Certification with ECOCERT and Vin Biologique / Organic wine from 2018 vintage) could well explain the apparently finely balanced 2018s at Domaine Morey-Coffinet, as biodynamic wines often give a better acidity and freshness in the wines.

Finca La Emperatriz el Jardín de La Emperatriz Crianza Rioja DOCa

Finca La Emperatriz is a winery with an extensive vineyard estate in Rioja Alta.
Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is the new project of brothers Eduardo and Víctor, who in 1996 acquired Bodega La Emperatriz, named as such because the first owner of these plots was Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. With this new emphasis and with new projects at hand, the winery changed its name but its high-end wines retain the Finca La Emperatriz signature, the name of the ‘viñedo singular’ they come from.
Until the end of 2019, the range of wines under the “Finca La Emperatriz” label included nine wines made with grapes from different vineyards of the same name. This has been replaced by a new selection where El Jardín de la Emperatriz Tinto now occupies the place of Finca la Emperatriz Parcela No. 1 and Finca La Emperatriz Garnacha Cepas Viejas that are no longer produced.

Finca La Emperatriz has the Viñedo Singular certification, which is given to small, old plots with limited but high quality production and which, in summary, must comply with a series of strict standards to prove their quality. The grapes used to make El Jardín de la Emperatriz Tinto come from plots where the soils are mostly composed of white boulders over a sandy-loam structure and where the vines have an average age of 25 years old.
