Bodegas Bastida Ally Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Bodegas Bastida is a winery with a family tradition, which use grapes from vineyards located at 600 – 800 meters above sea level under the sunny climate of the Region of Murcia (southeast of Spain). The philosophy and identity here is to maintain the tradition, from the field taking care of and controlling the vineyard in a sustainable way until bottling in the search of the perfect profile of the customer.

Alceño is a family wine estate in the center of Jumilla, Murcia, southern Spain since 1870. They were the first wine producer / trader in this region. The Bastida family is currently the owner and in recent years investments have been made in the most advanced techniques and processes with a view to the production of quality. Due to the warmer climate in Jumilla, the grape develops differently than in more northerly areas, which result in a very well-balanced, yet atypical Sauvignon Blanc.

Bodegas Vegalfaro Caprasia Bobal Crianza Ánfora

Andrés Valiente and his son Rodolfo formed Viñedos & Bodegas Vegalfaro in 1999. The name Vegalfaro comes from a combination of the word “vega,” meaning a lowland meadow or stretch of alluvial soil, with the historic name of their winery property, Casa Alfaro.

Bodegas Vegalfaro cultivates 60 hectares (148 acres) of low-yielding vines that fully conform to the strict requirements of Ecological Farming established by the European Union. The winery has never utilized artificial products in its vineyards, so soils are alive with a prolific variety of microfauna. These microscopic organisms are very important for the decomposition of organic material, as well as for the absorption of nutrients through a symbiotic relationship with the vine roots.

Caprasia in Iberian meant “the land of the goats.” The Caprasia brand pays tribute to a time when wild goats ran free and the native Iberian people practiced viticulture between the Sierra Cabrillas mountains and the Cabriel river.

The Pago de Los Balagueses estate is a privileged vineyard site in a solitary location entirely surrounded by forests within the mountainous Parque Natural de las Hoces del Cabriel, an ideal microclimate and soil for vine growing.

Pago de Los Balagueses is Vegalfaro’s top-echelon wine brand, entirely sourced from one of only seventeen wine estates in Spain awarded the DOP Vino de Pago designation to date. Spain’s “vino de pago” system is an appellation structure that was legally created in 2003 by the Spanish government, in coordination with Spain’s winemaking community, to indicate a higher qualification of excellence than DO or even the top-level DOCa. It is comparable to the French-wide Grand Cru system.

El Jardín de La Emperatriz Crianza Rioja DOCa

Finca La Emperatriz is a winery with an extensive vineyard estate in Rioja Alta.
Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is the new project of brothers Eduardo and Víctor, who in 1996 acquired Bodega La Emperatriz, named as such because the first owner of these plots was Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. With this new emphasis and with new projects at hand, the winery changed its name but its high-end wines retain the Finca La Emperatriz signature, the name of the ‘viñedo singular’ they come from, which is given to small, old plots with limited but high quality production and which, in summary, must comply with a series of strict standards to prove their quality. The grapes used to make El Jardín de la Emperatriz Tinto come from plots where the soils are mostly composed of white boulders over a sandy-loam structure and where the vines have an average age of 25 years old.
Since January 2020, the range of Classic Blends and Single Plot wines have disappeared, giving way to four new labels: a high-end red and white called “Finca la Emperatriz Gran Vino”, a blend of traditional Rioja varieties from a “viñedo singular”, a pure expression of terroir, like the great chateaux of Bordeaux; and their respective younger brothers also from the same estate, called El Jardín de la Emperatriz.

Finca La Emperatriz Gran Vino Tinto Reserva is made with clusters from old vines aged between 50 and 65 years old from the Finca La Emperatriz vineyard, which has white boulder soils over a sandy-loam structure. These characteristics are perfect for vine cultivation and add an elegant touch to the wines. The 2016 is a fine and elegant red wine where the presence of the Viura white variety brings acidity and freshness. A wine with a classic Rioja style but with clean and precise aromas and flavours and the promise of an excellent bottle-aging potential.

Hermanos Hernáiz Las Cenizas Tempranillo Rioja DOCa

Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is the new project of brothers Eduardo and Víctor, who in 1996 acquired Bodega La Emperatriz, named as such because the first owner of these plots was Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. With this new emphasis and with new projects at hand, the winery changed its name but its high-end wines retain the Finca La Emperatriz signature, the name of the ‘viñedo singular’ they come from.

Las Cenizas is a wine that takes its name from one of the most important towns of the D.O.C.a Rioja: Cenicero, in the heart of Rioja Alta, from where the Hernáiz brothers are native. Cenicero means ashtray in Spanish and Cenizas means ashes. A name believed to come from the bonfire ashes that the primitive shepherds left on the surrounding areas of the village. An iconic village for its vineyards and the quality of its wines. Grapes from 3 vineyards: Puentarrón, Los Hundidos and Sanchisnal, planted in the 80’s by the family that owns Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz.
